Yin Yoga & FAQ

What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slow, gentle, therapeutic practice that focuses on the connective tissues of the body, especially fascia, ligaments, and joints.

How is Yin Yoga practised?
Postures are held for longer periods, usually between 3 and 5 minutes. This allows both the connective tissue and the nervous system to respond.

What is the purpose of Yin Yoga?
The purpose of Yin Yoga is not strength or flexibility. It supports joint health, mobility, circulation, and nervous-system regulation.

Do I need to be flexible to practise Yin Yoga?
No flexibility is required. The effectiveness of Yin Yoga does not depend on how deep a posture looks.

Who is Yin Yoga suitable for?
Yin Yoga is suitable for most people from around the age of 12. The minimum age is set because the practice requires stillness, patience, and the ability to remain present in a posture for several minutes.

Are props used in Yin Yoga classes? Is the practice safe?
Yes. Props such as bolsters, blocks, and blankets are used to fully support the body and protect the joints. All postures are adapted to the individual, and there is no forcing or pushing into shapes.

Is Yin Yoga a religious practice?
No. Yin Yoga is not a religious or devotional practice. The postures are functional and therapeutic in nature.
